I have been asked numerous times why the mushroom and where does the "mingmushi" mushroom brand originated from.
Mushroom has always been my favourite dish, no matter the aroma or the health benefits - the scene of the shiitake mushrooms in a bowl of ramen seriously makes me salivate. There is an old saying "Swimming and Holding an Umbrella as it Rains". The analogy of that Mushroom Soup, as mum brings it to the table, certainly makes it memorable. It is just the way it looks, like an umbrella, giving earth's little creatures that added shelter, that initiated my first develop of this concept.
I believe the Japanese Kawaii culture also influenced me in creating this iconic mushroom. The ease of putting it to paper with the curves and the dots. Red has always been one of my branding colours, and the combination of these linework and colour propelled it to move forward.
Environmental awareness, the fluidity of nature, and its evolution has always been a hot topic in my art. I was never really into realism, and as my abstract art began to take shape, elements of nature allowed it to give it that added conceptualism. The mushroom hence was perfect for that landscape. The philosophy extract below will certain give a glimpse of this brand meaning and it's representation.
